Who runs the classes?

Meet Emma.

Emma is one of the midwives that teaches our Oxford antenatal classes. She completed her midwifery training in Leicester and graduated in 2015. After graduating, she moved back to Oxfordshire and has worked in several settings including a consultant-led unit, a midwife-led birth centre and in the community. She is currently working in early pregnancy care and has recently completed a course in ultrasound scanning. She is mum to two little girls and enjoys doing crafts like macrame and paper quilling in her downtime. Emma says: "I'm feeling thrilled and privileged to be supporting you through your journey into parenting - and beyond! Preparing antenatally for this transition is going to pay dividends later and I'm so excited to help you feel ready and confident at this awesome time."

How does this differ to NCT classes in Oxford?

The reason NCT springs to mind first for many people when thinking about antenatal classes is because the classes have been around since the 1950s. For many decades they were the only form of antenatal classes available. This means many people believe that all antenatal classes are NCT classes, which is not the case.

The NCT is a charity and instructors complete a degree course to teach the classes. All Happy Parents Happy Baby instructors are midwives and doctors so have a degree but also thousands of hours of practical experience working in birth centres and hospitals.

Unlike NCT classes, our antenatal classes all include hypnobirthing and baby first aid at no extra cost. At the time of writing, NCT classes in Oxford are priced at £299, compared to prices from £199 for Happy Parents Happy Baby antenatal classes. NCT classes in Oxford are held at venues such as West Oxford Community Association and Oxford Quaker Meeting House, whereas our classes take place at The Mercure Hotel where you can relax and make the most of socialising with your course mates.

Our local Oxford community

Most people on our Oxford course are from Oxford. The course is also popular with people living neighbouring areas of Kidlington, Eynsham, Kennington and Headington.

From walks along the river and to all the museums, to hangouts in the coffee shops and at each other’s houses, graduates from our Oxford antenatal classes are never short of things to do.

Is it worth it?

“This course was invaluable for us. We don’t have family nearby, but this course really helped us find our tribe. The specialists were so knowledgeable and supportive. It’s helped make welcoming our baby such a positive experience.”

Jo and Sam, July course
