Who runs the classes?

Meet Roisin.

Roisin is one of the midwives that teaches our Thame antenatal classes. Roisin graduated in 2015 from City University. She has been working as an NHS midwife since 2015 in all areas of midwifery including the homebirth team, antenatal clinics, postnatal wards, community, birth centres and labour wards. She is passionate about women-centred care and informed choice and loves nothing more than supporting parents through pregnancy, birth and the postnatal period. She is also a loving mother of two and currently works as a labour ward midwife. In her spare time she loves yoga, nature and travel. She says “I am really looking forward to meeting you, sharing my knowledge and being there for you as you embark on the most incredible journey.”

How does this differ to NCT classes in Thame?

The reason NCT springs to mind first for many people when thinking about antenatal classes is because the classes have been around since the 1950s. For many decades they were the only form of antenatal classes available. This means many people believe that all antenatal classes are NCT classes, which is not the case.

The NCT is a charity and instructors complete a degree course to teach the classes. All Happy Parents Happy Baby instructors are midwives and doctors so have a degree but also thousands of hours of practical experience working in birth centres and hospitals.

Unlike NCT classes, our antenatal classes all include hypnobirthing and baby first aid at no extra cost. At the time of writing, NCT classes in Thame are priced at £299, compared to prices from £199 for Happy Parents Happy Baby antenatal classes. NCT classes in Thame are held at Thame Barn Centre, whereas our classes take place at a popular central pub where you can relax and make the most of socialising with your course mates.

Our local community

Most people on our Thame course are from Thame. The course is also popular with people living neighbouring areas of Haddenham, Shabbington and Long Crendon.

From walks in Cuttlebrook Nature Reserve and the surrounding countryside, to hangouts in the coffee shops and at each other’s houses, graduates from our Thame antenatal classes are never short of things to do.

Is it worth it?

“This course was invaluable for us. We don’t have family nearby, but this course really helped us find our tribe. The specialists were so knowledgeable and supportive. It’s helped make welcoming our baby such a positive experience.”
